Rio
Blake

With a grounded and intimate style, emerging photographer Rio Blake creates her reportage work, not as a voyeur, but as an active participant - Rio’s documentary images capture the rich textures of life in the Capital with warmth and understanding.

The absence of Notting Hill Carnival has been felt this last two years, and London-based Rio sought to keep its spirit alive through a photography exhibition (which is no mean feat, well done Rio!) Capturing the sights, sounds, and smells of the Carnival, Rio organised and curated a charity show this summer, collaborating with other emerging artists to raise money for the Grenfell Foundation.

From the array of young photographic talent to the Caribbean kitchen takeover by Mama's Jerk, the exhibition captured not only the multi-sensory delights of the Carnival but also the commitment and enthusiasm of some of London’s up-and-coming photographic talent – led by Blake herself.

Celebrating youth and inclusivity, Rio’s Street photography is an honest snapshot of urban life. Through showcasing some of her work, we hope to give support and encouragement to Rio’s journey into the photographic industry, and we’re looking forward to seeing how her work develops.
